Oddly upbeat for an EP with a darker theme, Blake Bassett includes songs from Ingrid Michealson, Bright Eyes, and Pricilla Ahn to create an oddly blue but charming feel. Her own original song, and namesake of the EP, heartbeat, plays along with the existing theme to paint a picture of a summer romance gone wrong.
